Last week, Right at Home Housing Society hosted its biennial casino fundraiser at the Grande Villa Casino. At the end of the quarter, we will know how much the fundraiser will be able to aid us financially. Our previous casinos have been are largest fundraisers to date. Past casinos have helped us with renovations to current properties, as well as towards the development of new properties.
We appreciate the dedication of our volunteers, who contributed to this year’s casino fundraiser
Many of our volunteers were repeat contributors to our casino fundraiser. These individuals were supporters, tenants, and some of the Alberta Gaming Liquor Commission ‘casino angels’ who believe in the work of our not-for-profit organization. Some of our volunteers worked double shifts to assist with last minute scheduling changes. As a result, we are forever grateful to those who committed to making this a successful casino. Without the 25 volunteers who gave their time to work towards our goals of expanding and creating homes within affordable housing units, the fundraiser would not be possible.
We are always looking to strengthen our volunteer base. If you’d like to be a contact for our 2019 casino, please get in touch.
Our goals for heading into the next two years, with the casino fundraiser contributions
We are looking at several possibilities for our casino fundraiser’s financial contribution to help with our future:
- North Glenora Project
The North Glenora Project will have construction completed by September 2017. Right at Home Housing Society may be using funding towards the interior maintenance of the building. - Norwood Boulevard Family Housing 22 units, a mix of 2 and 3 bedrooms
A development permit has been secure. In addition, with CMHC affordable housing construction financing, this project could be in the ground this autumn. Funds from the casino fundraiser may be used to provide furniture, such as mattresses, for tenants who do not have the means to supply them. - Land Purchase
We recently purchased a parcel of land in North East Edmonton (Beacon Heights) and have our designs set to build 23 family housing units. Furthermore, we anticipate partnering with the Islamic Social Services Association in the development and operation of this very exciting project. This may be a project that utilizes future casino fundraiser financial support.
Once again, we thank those for donating the gift of time towards running a large casino fundraiser that will assist Right at Home Housing Society in continuing to help those facing poverty for the foresseable future.
