St. Paul’s Lutheran Church traces its roots back to 1951, when German immigrants, gathering to hold church services, came together and pooled their talent and labor to construct the Church, which was completed in 1955.

Over the years, the membership decreased its activities and realized that the Church held the potential to serve a new and meaningful purpose and continue to honour the history and sacred tradition of the building. From this vision, a partnership with Right at Home Housing Society was formed with the goal to build affordable housing. The St. Paul’s congregation gifted this property to Right at Home Housing Society with plans to develop a community space, in addition to affordable housing, that will connect neighbours by creating beautiful gathering spaces.

Our St. Paul’s Legacy project will introduce 11 new homes to the community of King Edward Park and will help families and individuals who are facing housing insecurity. We are grateful for the multi-jurisdiction funding that has helped make this project possible, as well as the generosity of the St. Paul church council who donated the property, for us to build affordable housing, and a welcoming community space, that will be a positive addition to the neighbourhood. The project had substantial financial contributions made by the City of Edmonton Edmonton Housing Investment Fund, the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) Housing Initiative, Alberta Social Housing Corporation, and the Government of Canada Rapid Housing Initiative funding.

The project is currently 80% complete. We will host our grand opening of the building in February 2025 with the first housing units anticipated to be occupied in January 2025.
